“Involve us in devolution investment decisions” Local authorities
Local authorities have appealed for government to allow them to decide on which projects to fund in their districts with the devolution grants recently disbursed to them.
Treasury is reported to have recently disbursed $42 million of the total of the grant which is meant to promote and usher in principles of devolution.
Speaking at a devolution indaba recently held in Gweru yesterday, the city’s deputy mayor Councillor Cleopas Shiri said local authorities are well versed with loopholes where there is need in their districts.
Councillor Shiri said the government must therefore allow them to be part of the decision making process as far as where to invest and initiate projects is concerned.
