Warriors seal AFCON qualification
The Zimbabwe national soccer team sealed a fourth AFCON qualification following a 2-nil win over Congo Brazzaville at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.
Chants of jubilation were the dominant force as Zimbabwe booked a place at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Egypt.
The Warriors shrugged off the challenge of Congo Brazzaville courtesy of two clinical first half goals.
The first came courtesy of a well-taken free kick by Khama Billiat in the 23rd minute.
With the Warriors looking to complement the support of the big crowd that thronged the National Sports Stadium in its thousands Knowledge Musona would then score an intelligently thought out goal in the 36th minute.
Despite Congo Brazzaville on occasions threatening down the left hand channel where they sought to capitalise on the pace of Junior Makiesse, the Warriors were able to stand firm and thwart all the raids launched by the visitors.
Warriors head coach Sunday Chidzambwa and captain Knowledge Musona were both satisfied with a performance which sparked wild celebrations after the final whistle.
With qualifications sealed the Zimbabwe Football Association will now be shifting focus to ensuring they provide the team with adequate preparation for the 2019 AFCON finals to be hosted by Egypt.
