Government to rescusitate Lower Gwelo irrigation schemes

Lower Gwelo residents have called on government to assist them in the resuscitation of Mambanjena irrigation scheme.

The scheme used to provide irrigation for over 168 households but is currently idle owing to a faulty pump on top of other challenges.

Speaking during a recent tour of irrigation schemes in Lower Gwelo, minister for Midlands provincial affairs Mr Larry Mavima said he would speak to the Lands minister  Perrence Shiri concerning the scheme, adding that work on rescusitating it would commence this year.

Mr Mavima said the province housed some of the oldest irrigation schemes in the country and with adequate investment and work, they had the potential to be some of the most successful irrigation schemes in the country.

Other irrigation schemes which were toured include Shagari, Mkoba and Insukamini irrigation schemes.
